Keep Moving Forward

So I was fortunate enough to catch a sneak preview of Disney's Meet The Robinsons tonight.  I wasn't expecting much after the disappointment that was TMNT.  But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.  It's a real good, feel good family flick with plenty of adult humour that doesn't alienate children, a strong story with loads of engaging characters, a stellar Pixar-esque polish, and of course the valuable life lesson at the end.  The latter really hit close to home and after the week I've had, I really needed the gentle reminder -- Keep Moving Forward.  It's a good lesson.  Do yourself a favour, get in touch with your inner kid and see this movie pronto.

Sexy Geek Icons & Crazy Comedians

Ever since I saw the first two Resident Evil movies, I've been hooked on Milla Jovovich. A lot of critics thought the films were lame because they didn't live up to the same pedigree that the games had already established in the gaming world. But screw those guys! I loved them both and have been anxiously awaiting for the third installment in the trilogy. But 2007 is long while away. So in the meantime, there's this new sci-fi flick to tied me over.

Milla was recently a guest on one of my favourite G4TV shows, Attack of the Show, to promote UltraViolet which is hitting theatres this Friday. Her interview with Kevin Pereira was adorable. He was cute and charming. She was hot and surprisingly geeky (but in that rad sort of way). I'm hoping they'll upload the segment to their podcast soon.

But it can't all be guns and glory. Sometimes you just need a good laugh. Which is why I also really want to see Dave Chappelle's Block Party. The trailer always pops up on my TV at work and I die every time I see it. He addresses so many social and cultural issues and reaches out to so many different people with nothing more than his own brand of honesty, you just can't help yourself from laughing. For some, he's too much. But I dig his unapologetic approach to comedy and he's one of my favourite comedians for it.

One of the very first sketches of his that I saw was the Grand Theft Auto parody. Freakin' classic. Check it out below.

Rotoscope-tastic

I liked Waking Life.  The story was a little out there, but at least it was interesting to watch visually... especially while "under the influence".  A great part of that is because the whole movie was shot and then sketched over again in post production to create this kind of animated, cel-shaded, almost comic book style to the film.  The process is called rotoscoping.  I studied it back when I was in college, but I wasn't very good at it.  It's a painstakingly long process, similar to stop motion animation in that you must work on everything frame by effin frame.  The end result is remarkable though and quite the technical achievement.

To my delightful surprise, it appears David Linklater has made another movie in this style and its set to be released in theatres this summer.  I caught the trailer for A Scanner Darkly tonight on Attack of the Show, but the screenshot above doesn't really do it justice.  You need to check it out for yourself to be truly impressed and you can right here.  It's pretty damn rad.

Happy Love Day

I've had quite possibly the best Valentine's Day ever.  I'm certain the company helped.  :)

So I took the day off work and in the morning, I picked up my Valentine from the subway.  We exchanged presents and I got Mega Man Maverick Hunter X for the PSP.  Only I would be psyched about getting a videogame for a Valentine's Day present!  Now, this is my first Mega Man game and I used to make fun of the Mega Man fanboys... but I have to say, it's actually pretty damn cool.  It's hard as hell (maybe I just suck lol) but still cool nonetheless.

In the afternoon, we went to see Imagine Me & You.  It's a VERY chelle kind of movie: cleverly written, romantic-comedy, starring uber hot british people with equally sexy accents.  I think it's great that the supporting actors Matthew Goode and Lena Headey gave way better performances than Piper Perabo.  My favourite part of the movie, of course, was the DDR montage in the arcade.  Yes, Dance Dance Revolution made it into the flick somehow.  Freakin' love it.

In the evening, we went to the Body Worlds 2 exhibit at the Ontario Science Centre.  I know it doesn't sound very romantic, but it's something we've both wanted to check out for a while now.  And seeing as how our work schedules usually conflict, we thought today would be the perfect opportunity to go before it ends in less than 2 weeks.  It was "interesting"... and a little creepy at the same time, but I'm definitely glad I got to see it .

Then for dinner, we stuffed our faces at the Old Spaghetti Factory located in the Esplanade.  I wanted to hit up a restaurant somewhere in The Distillery District, but we kind of planned the whole day on the fly and I was worried we wouldn't be able to get reservations there.  It wasn't a bad choice though!  I went all out with the steak and spaghetti entree.  Damn, it was good.

We ended it all off with some season 3 of The L Word.  Did you know the creators of the show are giving fans the chance to write an episode... with the potential of the script actually being produced?  I think that's pretty rad.
