Press Start

Goodbye, two thousand and sucks.  Hello, two double-O-seven.  Yes, much like the secret agent himself, I predict the coming year will be filled with intrigue, ingenuity, and charisma.  I'm not making any promises, but 2007 is looking quite promising.  And not a moment too soon.  It seems everyone I know couldn't wait for 2006 to just die already.

So the obligatory resolutions.  Well, I'm not going to eat better nor will I exercise more.  We all know I adore gluttony and sloth way too much to deny myself those sinful pleasures.  I'm not going to say I'll quit smoking... but only because I already have ;) nicotine-free for 9 months now.  No, my resolution is much simpler: I will make a consistently conscious effort to thoroughly engage myself in daily activities that bring me nothing but utter happiness.

Sounds selfish, doesn't it.  But it isn't about taking more than I need, it's about replenising what has long since drained itself from my soul.  Spending entire weekends watching DVD box sets of "life-altering" television shows from a decade ago will no longer be viewed as a waste of time.  It'll be comforting.  I want to I'm going to read more... like books... with words!  Yes, I'm going all out.  It'll be enlightening.  I plan to seek out good music and good movies and good internet viral videos before it's yesterday's news.  It'll be rewarding.  And of course, I can't forget my dark mistress.  Oh videogames, how I love you so.  I'm so sorry I've neglected you all these years.  It's time to give you the love and attention you've always deserved.  And that will be rejuvenating.  And if the culmunation of these minor events all mashed up over the days, weeks, and months to come make a more energetic and optimistic me... then I think the world at large will be better for it.

Oh yes... one last resolution:  I will (attempt to) blog more.  I won't do it every day.  Because if I say I would I'd be a liar.  And I'm not ready for that kind of commitment.  But I'll try to keep it interesting, mix it up, shake it around.  Haha... I'm sure this will be the obligatory resolution that is doomed to be broken.

I NEED YOUR HELP!

On Sunday, June 4, 2006, I will be participating in a 25K bike ride along the Don Valley Parkway in this year's Becel Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart.  All the money that I raise will go directly towards research for the Heart and Stroke Foundation

If you have already sponsored me, I'll just say thank you again and you can stop reading right here.  BUT if you haven't sponsored me yet, I urge you to please press on.  This is HUGE for me.

Knowing that I'm not exactly athletically inclined, many people have asked me why I've decided to voluntarily sign up for such an event.  I have a few reasons.  I felt the need to challenge myself physically and try to get myself into better shape by pushing my own personal limits.  I'll also be doing the ride with some of my greatest friends, so the day is sure to be a fun experience.

But most importantly, I wanted to do the ride for all the people close to me who have lost loved ones due to heart attack or stroke or tragically even both.  It is for these friends that I do this -- love is my greatest motivation.  I'm sure many of you have been personally effected in your own lives too.  And it may seem cliché but I know I can truly make a difference... and YOU can help me!

If you'd like to sponsor me, just click here to my secure pledge page.  And while all pledges over $20 are tax deductible (a bonus for all you tax payers), I would happily accept ANY dollar amount your budget can afford -- $15, $10, $5, hey whatever you can spare.  Remember every single dollar counts.

MY RIDE IS LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY... SO PLEASE DON'T HESITATE OR PROCRASTINATE... PLEDGE ME RIGHT NOW!!!

From the bottom of my heart (pun totally intended!), I thank you for your support.  And please wish me luck... I'll need all the good vibes I can get  <3 <3 <3

Happy Love Day

I've had quite possibly the best Valentine's Day ever.  I'm certain the company helped.  :)

So I took the day off work and in the morning, I picked up my Valentine from the subway.  We exchanged presents and I got Mega Man Maverick Hunter X for the PSP.  Only I would be psyched about getting a videogame for a Valentine's Day present!  Now, this is my first Mega Man game and I used to make fun of the Mega Man fanboys... but I have to say, it's actually pretty damn cool.  It's hard as hell (maybe I just suck lol) but still cool nonetheless.

In the afternoon, we went to see Imagine Me & You.  It's a VERY chelle kind of movie: cleverly written, romantic-comedy, starring uber hot british people with equally sexy accents.  I think it's great that the supporting actors Matthew Goode and Lena Headey gave way better performances than Piper Perabo.  My favourite part of the movie, of course, was the DDR montage in the arcade.  Yes, Dance Dance Revolution made it into the flick somehow.  Freakin' love it.

In the evening, we went to the Body Worlds 2 exhibit at the Ontario Science Centre.  I know it doesn't sound very romantic, but it's something we've both wanted to check out for a while now.  And seeing as how our work schedules usually conflict, we thought today would be the perfect opportunity to go before it ends in less than 2 weeks.  It was "interesting"... and a little creepy at the same time, but I'm definitely glad I got to see it .

Then for dinner, we stuffed our faces at the Old Spaghetti Factory located in the Esplanade.  I wanted to hit up a restaurant somewhere in The Distillery District, but we kind of planned the whole day on the fly and I was worried we wouldn't be able to get reservations there.  It wasn't a bad choice though!  I went all out with the steak and spaghetti entree.  Damn, it was good.

We ended it all off with some season 3 of The L Word.  Did you know the creators of the show are giving fans the chance to write an episode... with the potential of the script actually being produced?  I think that's pretty rad.

Dear Universe,

Slack... how about cutting me some?

Thanks,

Guess Who's Back... Back Again...

It's been just over two years since I last delved into the world of self-deprecation.  Many reasons contributed to my intial departure.  And even many more added to my continued resistance to come back.  Perhaps there were weak attempts, but nothing substantial ever came to fruition.  Until now.

Necessity is indeed the mother of invention.  I feel driven by an undeniably desire to create something, ANYTHING, that will be completely and totally mine again.  So here I am.  Will it be self-indulgent?  Ha, of course!  Will it be perfect?  :| Of course not.  But that will be part of its charm.  This little space of mine on the interweb will be a constant work in progress.  Change will be embraced... and inevitable.  But I look forward to the challenge and I'm psyched by the potential.

Bottomline:  I really just can't wait to be a GEEK again. :)  So sound the trumpets, break out the wine and beer, and get your dancing shoes on... the prodigal daughter has returned once more.  Enjoy!
